Wireless Access Pre-Installation Test Kits
Are Now Available from Recognition Source

Recognition Source launches new test kits designed to aid customers in determining site compatibility for the Wireless Access product line.

ST. CHARLES, IL (March 18, 2002) – Schlage Wireless Access, the leading innovator in wireless applications for the access control industry, unveiled a series of Pre-Installation Test Kits.  These Test Kits are used to survey any potential site to certify the RF communication link between the EAC panel and the Wireless Access peripheral devices from their planned locations.

One test kit is intended to check out all interior and exterior doors that will use Integrated Reader Locks (IRLs).  A second test kit is intended to check out gate and elevator installations as well as moveable checkpoints and guard tour applications.  A third test kit is a combination of the first two.  Each comes in a molded case with handle for easy portability.

“These new Pre-Installation Testers have been requested by our customers,” explained Fred Conforti, president of Recognition Source, the parent of the Wireless Access brand.  “They want reassurance of the RF system’s integrity before jobs are sold or installations are started.  The test kits have de-rated performance and demonstrate the expected performance of the installed system.  This reassures our customers early in the sales or installation process.”

These test kits are self-contained, portable and require only a few minutes to check a location.  The Test Panel Interface Module (T-PIM) is located where its equivalent Panel Interface Module will be installed.  The Integrated Reader Lock Tester or Wireless Portable Tester is held where it will be used.  Then a Link switch is pressed initiating the communication checkout process.  During “Linking” 160,000 bits are transmitted and received twice at half-power and then are compared.  Over 99% of all bits must be correctly transmitted and received before an “acceptable” indication is given.

“If the ‘acceptable’ signal is given, the communications were greater than 99% correct using about half the power that will be used during normal operation of the device that will be installed,” commented Conforti.  “It gives our customers added assurances they didn’t have before.”
